Review: The Rain Before it Falls

The Rain Before it Falls
The Rain Before it Falls by Jonathan Coe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It took me a while to get into this but I was soon gripped. The story is narrated by Rosamond who has decided to take her life but before she does she tells the melancholic tale of her cruel cousin Beatrix and her unwanted child Thea. She does this by describing a series of twenty pictures, pictures that chart the misfortunes of her self and her family for over half a century. The tale unfolds in Birmingham, Shropshire, London, France and Canada and is a bitter slice of life that you won’t be able to put down.
